Mieke Lucia van den Hout (1986) founded her studio in 2015 after graduating as a product designer at the ArtEZ Art Academy in Arnhem (NL).
Mieke Lucia creates sound absorbing wall objects and wall carpets. Adding more textiles into our work- and living spaces really enhances the acoustics. There are a lot of acoustic solutions that are hidden, standard or a bit dull. It is a missed opportunity that they don’t compliment their surroundings.
During Dutch Design Week Studio Mieke Lucia is showing TEXTILITY, a collection of hand tufted wall carpets that are made in collaboration with Tarkett. This tactile and graphic collection is a result of exploring the technique of tufting, combining hand tufting with an industrial tufted base. Mieke Lucia is also showing works of the Growing Textiles collection; a series of custom- made acoustic wall objects. By combining craft and industrial techniques new potential arises, resulting in clear bold designs. Her motto: ‘’let’s surround ourselves with more textile!’’
Studio Mieke Lucia is housed at HE Ontwerpstudio’s in Arnhem at the industrial area IPKW. HE Ontwerpstudio’s is an inspiring and growing place that houses 14 creatives that motivate and inspire each other.
Mieke’s studio, where almost every square meter of wall is covered with works, experiments and material inspirations, testifies to her love of textiles. Mieke says: "I love to explore a material or a technique with my hands and react intuitively to my findings in the process. Stepping in to my studio is like entering my thoughts and fascinations".
